Hi Guys;
Just to say the following;
Ive got the Megacross working well now and had the chance to do some limited testing and Baja / FG / MCD comparisons have been made.
The way that i did this was firstly i ran the Megacross on a set of FG truck slicks and compared it to the other cars it cornered in half the radius that the others could manage at full speed around a cone on a tarmac carpark.
Then i repeated the same test on wet grass and used the same yellow dot tyres for all the cars... needless to say the megacross turned a tighter radius than the rest and suprisingly it beat even the MCD turn radius by a massive 7ft on a flat out turn around a cone, which i think goes to prove it turns quite well.
Now i am going to think up ways to test jumping, ruts, etc but i feel already there is no way it will beat a baja at jumping as i managed to jump 40ft + already at KORT with the black baja, vids to prove etc.
I supose the only real way is to.. get a horman driver to do the same tests subjectively and without any bias. and that will identify if the car is competitive, then do the same tests on ASTRO to see what results come from the test. but it has to be same driver and same tyres to make any real comparison.
The car now is handeling very well, the best i have seen from a fifth, and in my humble estimation will have the edge on a horman, ohhh and the shocks dont leak... well not yet anyway.
I have done a deal with the factory to only import cars to a certain spec to ensure the car goes well, and currently i am makeing a UK set of instructions and spec sheet.
I hope this thread is informative and look forward to any constructive comments.
Cheers

The best all alloy, show me your wallet, 2wd that is
I'd like to try driving a Megacross at Sweetnap to see how it compares to both 2wd (already know it'll be better than ANY 2wd) and my MCD, the standard MCD RR has more than enough steering for the current track, but can push a bit accelerating out of corners, however the new RR EVO has improved steering and an LSD diff up front also improves it, but it's still gonna be fragile.
However I'm not in the position to spend £1500 to find out, but I'll glady try yours _________________ Sweetnap Outlaw Champion 2007 |

Hi Ade
next time im at sweetnap you will be welcome to have a go, its better than i thought it would be... i think i said before.. time will tell now how fragile it is but first impressions are very good.
My MCD gives me the grin factor when on every corner you can power slide the racerunner with predictable ease.
It is the one way bearings on the front that make the big difference as soon as you put the power on the front drive locks out and it simply goes in whatever direction the front wheels are pointing.
Im not saying the megacross is perfect because its not but the car will show big promise, especially when i find me a national driver to take the car on.
PS when are sweetnap running again ? KORT cancelled last sunday but have moved the date to this weekend lets hope it dries out a bit.

Hi John,
I'll take you up on that offer
It's interesting what you say about the one way bearings up front, it makes sense to me now, I seem to remember locking diffs in 1/10th touring cars having the same effect.
As for the next Sweetnap meeting, I'm not sure, I think the chaps are going to Tiverton next weekend, but maybe on the 30th Dec there will be a meeting, if so I'll be there.
Cheers, Ade. _________________ Sweetnap Outlaw Champion 2007 |

Hi Jason,
You didnt see it go around cuz it only went about 100 yards before i relised that it only had front wheel drive ! so i pulled it off the track !
I was stupid to even try to run it realy as i had not even checked it over. The factory sent new parts with a bag load of appologies.
But she is going well now anyway so im happy.

Hey Evo
Ive seen the pictures etc of the cleon, so what makes it so good.. is it the general geo of the chassis or is there some other hidden feature of the car?
Cheers

Hi Blobby
Well The megacross is a totoally different car to the old supercross ! theres hardly a common part anywhere. The megacross will be good when its been shaken down and i predict it will be as good if not better than the current podium cars... as they say you gotta have faith.
4WD will win over a 2WD every time in the rough and bends... yes wide open big flat smooth race tracks will favour a 2WD with less weight and drag.. but theres not too many of those in the UK,
Ill be posting some video soon of the megacross in action, up against some MCD's as a fair appraisal
What MODS have you done?
Cheers

hi john ive done a pete whitehead conversion by standing the engine upright,ive also made a longer rear shock tower and am buying some elcon rear shocks,going to modify rear of chassis to give more supension travel aswell.ive still got fg front shocks mounted as they dont leak.ime thinking of pinng the rear wishbones instead of the little pins.have to see how it goes first. |
